Seeing was moderate to good. I took some data for the Lens monitoring program and then gave the telescope and instrument to the observer for his program. Stars looked slightly elongated in the guider images but not to the extent reported the past two nights. The observer kept an eye on his images and reported he did not see any image motion that would hamper his science. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half remained clear, with good to excellent seeing. We definitely saw some image elongation, usually in the direction of azimuth (although while I was using the SH, I did see some PMSS oscillations on A, B, and T which took ~20 seconds to damp out after the end of a slew). The azimuth wobbles were comparable to what we saw last night, no worse, and did not impede science. In some non-wobbly slitviewer images, the PI reported that he was seeing structure that ordinarily was only visible with HST. This morning's predawn eyepiece targets were Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, and the Moon. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:04 SPIcam -150(849) 125 54 7.8/8.1 2 3 r 0.94 18:09 NA2gdr -1124(59875) 185 56 7.3/8.1 346 2 R 1.13 20:11 SPIcam -100(866) 196 46 8.6/7.2 2 5 r 1.2 20:15 NA2gdr -1000(60000) 198 46 8.5/7.2 0 7 clear 0.84 22:25 SPIcam -100(893) 223 36 7.7/7.2 353 11 r 1.11 00:11 Echelle 50(-82) 150 48 8.3/7.3 348 6 ND2 1.14 01:22 Echelle -29(-184) 177 52 7.6/7.1 274 4 ND2 1.04 03:14 S-H 0(1268) 230 60 8.1/7.0 271 6 - good 03:31 Echelle 55(-71) 223 42 8.2/7.0 292 6 Red 0.64 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 49 14 5 285 (WNW) 45 Clear None 17:01 47 10 10 324 (NW) 18 Clear None 18:01 46 14 9 353 (N) 25 Clear None 19:01 45 11 4 356 (N) 31 Clear None 20:01 46 11 3 356 (N) 55 Clear None 21:01 47 12 9 355 (N) 64 Clear None 22:01 46 12 5 343 (NNW) 81 Clear None 23:01 47 12 11 338 (NNW) 104 Clear None 00:01 47 11 4 346 (NNW) 119 clear none 01:01 46 10 1 274 (W) 104 clear none 02:01 46 9 3 286 (WNW) 60 clear none 03:01 46 8 5 268 (W) 79 clear none 04:01 47 6 12 307 (NW) 42 clear none 05:01 47 6 9 327 (NNW) 60 clear none 06:01 45 9 8 285 (WNW) 34 clear none 07:01 47 6 7 315 (NW) 37 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
