The observers also discovered that their reimaging optics were out of focus for the chromographic spot in the instrument. They spent sometime trying to resolve this. The observers worked on the problem until 19:45 when they gave up and decided to go to the first object. The bleeding effect continued to plague their observations and they came to the conclusion that the shutter is opening and closing too slowly and causing bleeding on readout for the ccd. At 21:50 it was decided to try nter objects and reconfigure their instrument. We eventually worked out a scheme where in conjunction to the instrument shutters operation I would open the eyelid at the beginning of observations and close the eyelid just prior to the camera read out. This worked adaquately, and minimized the amount of bleeding during readout. Orographic clouds rolled in over the site about 02:30. They were not critical to the program being observed so I remained open since the skies were not threatening. Skies did return to photometric conditions with in an hour. Seeing throughout the night was moderate (1.5 arcsec) to poor (>2.5 arcsec). ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DD02 F I/H 17:59 19:45 Shutter remains open during readout ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:01 GFP 50(668) -10 51 4.8/4.4 250 14 r 1.92 20:21 NA2gdr -2317(57682) -12 51 4.3/4.3 263 14 r 2.6 22:33 GFP 100(675) 94 56 4.1/3.7 270 17 6700 2.07 22:41 NA2gdr -1585(58414) 95 57 3.9/3.5 263 11 clear 1.94 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 47 10 19 285 (WNW) 144 Clear None 17:01 44 13 10 279 (W) 203 Clear None 18:01 39 18 7 267 (W) 384 Clear None 19:01 41 19 13 283 (WNW) 284 Clear None 20:01 40 20 25 287 (WNW) 300 Clear None 21:01 39 20 15 260 (W) 276 Clear None 22:01 39 17 14 264 (W) 183 Clear None 23:01 39 18 17 276 (W) 266 Clear None 00:01 39 17 15 289 (WNW) 233 Clear None 01:01 38 18 16 297 (WNW) 248 Clear None 02:01 38 18 12 316 (NW) 185 Cloudy None 03:01 37 17 11 339 (NNW) 191 Cloudy None 04:01 36 20 5 355 (N) 220 Clear None 05:01 37 18 8 7 (N) 175 Clear None 06:01 37 16 9 334 (NNW) 156 Clear None note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
