The situation degraded toward 21:00 as the seeing ballooned to between 3 and 4 arcseconds with wild variations, making focusing the telescope interesting, to say the least. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half remained clear with hideous seeing. I was hoping to get some SH data, but never thought it was even worth trying. The humidity rose steadily during second half until it reached the limit and we closed at 04:30. Frost on various 2.5m surfaces were reported, although there was no sign of condensation in the 3.5m enclosure. The Princeton observers were unable to get slitview running at their end, or even bring up an xterm from tycho. They thought this might have something to do with a change in the Princeton firewall. We ended up with me running the slitviewer and centering the targets. Guiding was adequate, given the limitations of the horrible seeing. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:16 Echelle 0(-608) -47 70 -0.6/1.1 358 23 ND1 1.44 21:17 Echelle 150(-532) 29 54 -1.0/-1.2 14 16 ND1 4.44 00:16 DISslit 50(178) 219 54 -2.1/-2.1 62 14 - 4.2 00:21 NA2gdr 2000(55000) 220 53 -2.0/-2.1 61 15 clear 3.5 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 34 19 9 322 (NW) 146 clear none 17:01 32 18 6 329 (NNW) 137 clear none 18:01 31 18 13 1 (N) 120 clear none 19:01 31 17 22 16 (NNE) 89 clear none 20:01 31 16 16 354 (N) 66 clear none 21:01 30 15 26 21 (NNE) 79 clear none 22:01 30 9 23 22 (NNE) 36 clear none 23:01 30 12 16 65 (ENE) 54 clear none 00:01 29 9 18 65 (ENE) 25 clear none 01:01 27 12 19 63 (ENE) 40 clear none 02:01 26 16 23 68 (ENE) 37 clear none 03:01 25 17 19 76 (ENE) 54 clear none 04:01 24 18 19 71 (ENE) 56 clear none 05:01 23 19 13 75 (ENE) 109 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
