We started out with Adler (actually, we started with SPIcam flats which the Adler folks kindly allowed us time to take), taking pictures of some fast-moving asteroids. Most of the PU04 time for tonight was taken up with photometry and spectroscopy of a new GRB afterglow. I did the observations for this, being a long-time collaborator on the program (technically UC02, which is one of the "transients" programs sharing time with PU04). Also of very high priority was obtaining some throughput measurements to assess the impact of the rain spots currently on the mirror. I did this with the low/low gratings for optimum comparison with throughput measurements from September 3 and 19. We didn't do the lens monitoring originally planned for PU04, but did get in a little SN photometry for one of the other transient programs. The observer for that program (UW04) did show up as scheduled -- early, in fact! Thanks! -- but I told him I would be observing the GRB anyway and I was willing to do his SNe as well. Here's an image log for the throughput data: directory: tycho:/export/images/mcmillan/oct04/ [Sorry Jon -- I got the UT date wrong!
