Humidity dropped shortly after twilight and we opened. Around 20:00 the seeing was 0.75 arcsec. I turned the S-H on for cooling at 22:15 when it became photometric. Around 22:45 oscillations of the A-sector of the primary mirror support were visible that were affecting the image quality. 2nd half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half started out mostly clear with moderate to good seeing, somewhat marred by windshake and mirror oscillations. Fast-moving, fast-forming orographic clouds began to show up around 02:15. I borrowed some time to check the Shack-Hartmann when it was convenient for the observers. This was made more difficult by clouds and mirror oscillations; slightly over half the data had to be discarded, but the usable images showed reasonable collimation. The cloudcam quit silently at 03:36, but none of the 6 observers on-site realized that it wasn't representing reality (despite frequent checks) until 04:30. We discovered the truth when the real clouds got thick enough that we needed to close. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:35 DISslit 0(372) 72 79 1.8/3.3 269 19 --- 0.98 19:09 NA2gdr 1121(54121) 25 68 1.3/2.4 261 13 R 0.99 00:03 DISslit 50(279) -120 58 0.3/0.5 259 14 - 1.08 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 36 31 11 280 (W) 281 Prtly cldy none 17:01 35 30 15 277 (W) 278 Clear none 18:01 34 28 11 269 (W) 262 Clear none 19:01 34 28 9 268 (W) 264 Clear none 20:01 34 27 16 234 (SW) 247 Mstly Cldy none 21:01 33 27 17 248 (WSW) 180 Prtly cldy none 22:01 33 25 19 244 (WSW) 244 Clear none 23:01 33 24 14 252 (WSW) 214 Clear none 00:01 33 24 16 246 (WSW) 231 clear none 01:01 33 21 15 263 (W) 202 clear none 02:01 33 23 14 263 (W) 231 ptly cldy none 03:01 33 25 12 269 (W) 233 ptly cldy none 04:01 33 26 13 267 (W) 299 ptly cldy none 05:01 32 27 11 268 (W) 231 mstly cldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
