We were on the sky taking flats by 18:20 (we had 6 sets of flats in both 2x2 and 3x3 binning). This took a bit of time and John Barentine helped on this end in maximizine efficiency. Unfortunately we ran out of light before we could get g' 3x3 and V 3x3 flats completed. The 2237 Lens program came next and the seeing was around 1.1 arc sec but variable. I handed the telescope over to UW04 at around 20:05. At 00:33 I took the telescope back to again try and get some Shack-Hartmann data. Exactly 5 minutes before this the sky was perfectly clear but as soon as I took control of the telescope we had a sky full of clouds. I noticed this as my star on the video monitor came and went as the clouds passed between it and the telescope. At 00:50 I decided it was hopeless to try to get any Shack-Hartmann data and turned the telescope over to the 2nd half observer to use with SPIcam. Clouds swamped us shortly there after and I decided to close the telescope down at 01:30 as conditions continued to degrade. A large thunderhead formed just to the S of us around 02:45 and it started raining around 03:05. We did not open for the remainder of the the night due to rain, humidity, and dust. ---------------- FAILURE LOG --------------- PROG INST FAILURE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:14 SPIcam -100(733) 127 47 4.8/6.5 185 6 r' 1.07 19:25 NA2gdr 0(61000) 130 49 4.3/6.2 178 6 R 1.14 20:42 SPIcam 0(707) 200 69 4.0/4.8 179 9 r' 1.2 23:55 SPIcam 50(755) 124 65 4.9/4.6 154 17 r' 1.2 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 50 27 15 214 (SW) 155 Clear none 17:01 48 28 13 209 (SSW) 173 Clear none 18:01 45 29 2 246 (WSW) 184 Clear none 19:01 40 29 3 197 (SSW) 207 Clear none 20:01 40 29 9 139 (SE) 193 Clear none 21:01 39 30 8 175 (S) 208 Clear none 22:01 40 31 11 169 (SSE) 192 Clear none 23:01 40 31 13 169 (SSE) 198 Clear none 00:01 41 32 17 151 (SSE) 209 Pt.
