Started cooling S-H at 18:00. Started out on sky with a large pointing model. A second pointing model was done with a smaller number of points to compare with the 200 point model. Next we adjusted the tertiary tilts for the echelle. Next we adjusted the tertiary tilts for the Shack Hartmann and took a couple of sets of Shack Hartmann data. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half remained clear with good seeing. John stuck around and continued to help out. We decided to get a nice full set of SH data at different altitudes, which hasn't been done in a while. We spent three hours doing a sweep from 80 degrees all the way down to 28, with extra observations at the endpoints and at our favorite altitude of 60 degrees. We tinkered with the collimation. A conveniently-timed temperature fluctuation provided some interesting information about temperature vs. focus, at least for the Shack-Hartmann (I still say it behaves differently than all our other instruments, though I can't explain why). After the Shack-Hartmann data, we went on to some tests of the new version of the TUI with both DIS and GRIM, followed by science with GRIM. Clouds showed up shortly after 04:30 and soon impeded the GRIM science. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:17 DIS-slit -250(380) 86 52 5.6/7.5 281 6 --- 1.02 19:21 NA2guider -994(52005) 86 52 5.6/7.3 280 6 r' 0.97 23:25 Echelle 80(-275) 130 53 5.1/4.6 250 8 nd1 0.83 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 48 34 11 295 (WNW) 228 Clear None 17:01 49 36 4 238 (WSW) 243 Clear None 18:01 44 33 2 294 (WNW) 278 Clear None 19:01 42 31 7 295 (WNW) 262 Clear None 20:01 42 31 7 321 (NW) 265 Clear None 21:01 42 31 4 275 (W) 265 Clear None 22:01 41 34 2 354 (N) 288 Clear None 23:01 40 33 4 359 (N) 265 Clear None 00:01 42 32 4 353 (N) 260 Clear None 01:01 43 30 2 347 (NNW) 212 clear none 02:01 43 29 6 349 (NNW) 219 clear none 03:01 44 28 5 270 (W) 203 clear none 04:01 43 30 4 272 (W) 242 ptly cldy none 05:01 43 31 6 284 (WNW) 282 ptly cldy none 06:01 44 29 7 310 (NW) 296 ptly cldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
