I found clear skies and moderate wind. I opened the dome at 17:00 to begin cooling. Startup went smoothly, no issues to report. Dust shot over limit very abruptly at 18:45 and we closed the dome until 20:20 when dust dropped enough to open. We noticed that the dust counter on the tower is off by a factor of two when compared to both the handheld dust counter and the 3.5m dome counter. It is reading low so I was being conservative based on tower levels. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half we struggled against cirrus, mediocre seeing, and high winds, but obtained some data nonetheless. The telescope was closed for an hour when the winds went over the limit. The enclosure electronics needed to be reset when we re-opened, probably objecting to the cold, but this cost very little time. Everything else worked smoothly. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:25 Echelle -45(-606) 211 72 1.6/2.4 211 21 ND3 1.16 20:44 Echelle -8(-541) 163 51 1.4/1.7 244 20 ND1 1.48 00:33 SPIcam 0(503) 145 53 0.2/0.4 231 21 r' 1.29 00:37 NA2gdr 1706(62706) 146 53 0.1/0.4 217 14 R 1.25 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 40 2 22 222 (SW) 468 clear none 17:01 37 2 17 218 (SW) 471 clear none 18:01 34 4 18 198 (SSW) 442 clear none 19:01 34 9 22 218 (SW) 3339 clear none 20:01 33 5 21 240 (WSW) 1948 clear none 21:01 35 2 17 255 (WSW) 482 clear none 22:01 35 4 21 245 (WSW) 491 clear none 23:01 34 3 19 245 (WSW) 371 cirrus none 00:01 33 5 24 236 (SW) 249 ptly cldy none 01:01 32 4 21 228 (SW) 316 ptly cldy none 02:01 32 2 21 247 (WSW) 264 ptly cldy none 03:01 31 2 22 247 (WSW) 238 ptly cldy none 04:01 31 5 23 240 (WSW) 211 ptly cldy none 05:01 30 5 17 234 (SW) 206 ptly cldy none 06:01 30 6 20 223 (SW) 193 cirrus none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
