By dark it covered most of the sky. The observer initially thought something was wrong with the instrument when he could not see a magnitude 1.7 star in a part of the sky that seemed to be reasonably clear. Turns out I had the wrong pointing model running. Russet showed up at about 22:00 and fixed it, and the observer found stars again. Some time was lost to clouds, however. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan The echelle observations went peacefully until thicker clouds moved in shortly before midnight; the observer finished up his time with calibrations while we watched the clouds gather. There was some remote possibility of precipitation, so I closed soon after the changeover. The telescope was re-opened before 02:00, but the weather didn't become usable until about 03:00. After that, everything went well. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------------------------------- UC01/E T/S 18:22 20:30 Wrong pointing model in use ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:16 DISslit 0(367) 268 82 1.4/1.2 253 14 - 1.25 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 42 -1 3 266 (W) 158 PtlyCldy none 17:01 37 -6 5 256 (WSW) 175 PtlyCldy none 18:01 38 -1 10 267 (W) 8 PtlyCldy none 19:01 35 -5 10 221 (SW) 119 PtlyCldy none 20:01 34 -13 9 194 (SSW) 186 PtlyCldy none 21:01 36 -19 14 244 (WSW) 123 PtlyCldy none 22:01 35 -16 11 254 (WSW) 53 MstlyClear none 23:01 35 -10 18 254 (WSW) 91 MstlyClear none 00:01 35 -4 17 289 (WNW) 163 ptly cldy none 01:01 34 -1 13 246 (WSW) 179 mstly cldy none 02:01 33 6 12 265 (W) 256 mstly cldy none 03:01 33 4 19 267 (W) 283 ptly cldy none 04:01 31 5 14 267 (W) 300 mstly clr none 05:01 31 6 16 257 (WSW) 308 mstly clr none 06:01 32 6 17 270 (W) 262 mstly clr none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
