We did get to open under mostly cloudy skies at 17:15 MST as the clouds were improving. No problems in checkout and all ran smoothly. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Jack Dembicky Seeing was marginal all night long and finally blew up around 02:50 when it went above 3 arc sec and the guider had problems determining if it was a star of diffuse object (which is what everything looked like) it was trying to guide on. I informed the observers that they would need to just manually guide off the slitview image until things settled down a bit. BTW, Russet, the badseeing script didn't seem to help. We did a focus check and managed to get the guider guiding at 04:08 but the seeing was still jumping all around from 1.5 - 3 arc sec. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:47 GrIm f/5 50(331) -19 66 -0.1/+0.6 273 16 K' 0.85 22:50 GrIm f/5 -20(127) 175 48 -4.4/-3.9 288 10 K' 2.21 23:30 GrIm f/5 40(114) 254 67 -3.7/-4.2 355 8 K' 1.18 00:20 DISSlit -20(38) 231 68 -4.7/-4.5 8 18 none 1.86 00:24 NA2gdr 1598(58598) 234 67 -4.9/-4.6 6 18 R 1.73 04:08 DISslit 30(77) 312 54 -3.8/-5.5 335 20 none 1.89 04:13 NA2gdr 1979(58979) 312 54 -3.5/-5.4 319 21 R 1.60 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 33 15 22 242 (WSW) 1493 cloudy none 17:01 34 8 22 262 (W) 1974 cloudy none 18:01 32 3 22 262 (W) 1391 mstly cldy none 19:01 30 2 17 249 (WSW) 952 ptly cldy none 20:01 28 0 14 265 (W) 804 ptly cldy none 21:01 27 -2 12 264 (W) 663 clear none 22:01 26 0 6 286 (WNW) 917 clear none 23:01 25 -3 11 278 (W) 586 clear none 00:01 24 -3 10 3 (N) 914 clear none 01:01 22 0 24 19 (NNE) 409 clear none 02:01 22 -3 19 357 (N) 218 clear none 03:01 21 -5 16 359 (N) 193 clear none 04:01 24 -15 17 331 (NNW) 170 clear none 05:01 28 -24 5 297 (WNW) 100 clear none 06:01 28 -29 18 317 (NW) 50 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
