So, with the agreement of the observing specialist, the observer went home and left a phone number where he could be reached. During second half the humidity dropped below the limit, but it remained unstable for a while. There were still clouds present and some signs of frost developing on exposed surfaces, so I didn't consider opening to be an option until the humidity dropped further. When it was clear and relatively dry, I tried to reach the observer but got no answer in three tries over the course of an hour. I tried an experiment with the railing to see if frost formation was still a problem, and when all appeared fine, I opened the telescope at 04:35 and did a little bit of engineering. Everything worked well while I was playing with it. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 05:05 GrIm2(f/10) 50(255) 131 53 -1.6/-3.6 25 18 J 1.06 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 26 18 20 86 (E) 232 17:01 24 19 30 71 (ENE) 305 18:01 23 22 29 74 (ENE) 186 19:01 23 22 18 76 (ENE) 154 20:01 23 22 22 70 (ENE) 366 21:01 22 21 25 69 (ENE) 135 22:01 23 21 14 72 (ENE) 110 ptly cldy fog 23:01 22 21 8 77 (ENE) 78 ptly cldy none 00:01 22 21 9 75 (ENE) 132 ptly cldy none 01:01 27 19 0 314 (NW) 345 ptly cldy none 02:01 24 20 8 22 (NNE) 353 ptly cldy none 03:01 26 19 16 31 (NNE) 276 mstly clr none 04:01 28 19 14 30 (NNE) 335 mstly clr none 05:01 29 19 20 30 (NNE) 381 mstly clr none 06:01 28 19 1 261 (W) 495 mstly clr none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
