John Barentine, our new part time operator, performed the entire setup and checkout tonight. We then operated the lens monitoring program and then turned over to UC for science with the Echelle. One minor glitch tonight restarting the echelle guider ICC. It appears that you cannot restart the Mac and allow the NFS login window to remain there for long or else it causes problems. Basically, this means that you must wait while it is restarting and then enter the password ASAP, then continue with checkout. Craig is looking into this issue. Upper air disturbances moved in around 23:30 and seeing became unbelievably bad, making echelle obs very difficult. (>5 arcsecs at times). The temperature was very erratic and focus was jumping back and forth. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:14 SPIcam 120(1324) 102 23 15.5/17.0 0 0 r' 1.41" 21:01 Echelle 59(102) 127 42 15.3/16.4 344 1 clear 1.16" 23:30 Echelle -1(-67) 147 42 11.3/13.8 69 14 clear 2.16" 02:08 Echelle 250(-27) 325 52 11.0/ 9.7 34 15 clear 1.27" 03:52 Echelle 282(083) 322 38 11.8/11.5 1 6 clear 1.61" 04:53 Echelle 132(-123) 102 68 11.0/11.5 273 1 clear 1.04" --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 67 20 13 308 (NW) 853 clear none 17:01 68 20 9 264 (W) 806 clear none 18:01 67 18 15 274 (W) 723 clear none 19:01 63 18 8 290 (WNW) 703 clear none 20:01 61 17 1 332 (NNW) 629 clear none 21:01 61 18 1 355 (N) 669 clear none 22:01 59 18 4 321 (NW) 527 clear none 23:01 58 18 2 136 (SE) 810 clear none 00:01 49 35 16 71 (ENE) 1615 clear none 01:01 47 38 19 62 (ENE) 1706 clear none 02:01 53 25 14 28 (NNE) 936 clear none 03:01 54 9 10 9 (N) 555 clear none 04:01 52 15 3 7 (N) 757 clear none 05:01 52 22 3 327 (NNW) 927 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
