Barentine (1st half) Threatening weather and thick clouds nearby at sunset kept us closed for a while, then the humidity reached the limit soon after we opened. The telescope was still warm, but the humidity continued to rise until we had to close -- then it dropped. We reopened again soon after. Skies remained clear and the seeing improved somewhat as the night progressed. We had further opportunity to test the echelle's autoguiding capabilities, and it appears that the newest version of Remark is nearly ready for general use. GRIM's seeing advantage was very apparent during second half; it was getting subarcsecond seeing while the guider (running intermittently) showed worse than 1.5 arcsec. All went smoothly during the GRIM observations. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:30 Echelle -600(-273)* 184 49 9.8/13.4 76 21 ND2 2.1 22:56 Echelle 50(-57) 230 44 9.9/11.3 66 16 ND1 1.71 01:16 GrIm2(f/10) 25(877) 237 40 10.1/10.1 67 20 J 0.87 01:41 NA2gdr 0(59000) 233 42 10.4/10.2 59 14 R 1.6 * Zeropoint focus for this instrument was changed after measurement. --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 18:01 58 42 23 54 (NE) 483 ptly cldy none 19:01 56 43 24 62 (ENE) 362 ptly cldy none 20:01 55 43 19 71 (ENE) 282 mstly cldy none 21:01 51 46 25 70 (ENE) 340 mstly clr none 22:01 49 46 18 78 (ENE) 321 mstly clr none 23:01 50 44 15 72 (ENE) 267 clear none 00:01 50 44 17 70 (ENE) 267 clear none 01:01 50 44 16 64 (ENE) 310 clear none 02:01 51 43 18 65 (ENE) 356 clear none 03:01 52 41 17 53 (NE) 254 clear none 04:01 52 37 12 38 (NE) 260 clear none 05:01 53 35 17 28 (NNE) 315 clear none 06:01 54 36 8 4 (N) 330 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
