Shortly after midnight, I noticed that the clouds had thinned somewhat, so I contacted the scheduled second-half observer to find out his science requirements. He was willing to give it a try, so we got set up and opened the dome around 01:30 under variable cirrus. We were able to get some focus measurements, but even the brightest of the program stars was defeated by the combination of clouds plus moon. The observer gave up at 02:40, and while the clouds remained thin enough to pose no actual threat, I played around with some engineering tasks instead, using very bright stars. No science was accomplished, but I learned some interesting things about the echelle autoguider. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 02:14 SPIcam -250(512) -86 53 6.2/6.2 79 20 r' 1.56 02:54 Echelle -87(-370) 55 56 5.5/5.7 85 18 ND3 3.01 04:15 SPIcam -50(673) 46 69 6.1/6.0 85 17 r' 2.05 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 17:01 49 31 16 77 (ENE) 463 cloudy none 18:01 47 32 22 75 (ENE) 489 cloudy none 19:01 46 33 22 70 (ENE) 474 cloudy none 20:01 45 32 24 76 (ENE) 474 cloudy none 21:01 44 31 22 78 (ENE) 346 cloudy none 22:01 43 31 27 75 (ENE) 369 cloudy none 23:01 42 32 18 76 (ENE) 331 cloudy none 00:01 42 30 24 84 (E) 316 mstly cldy none 01:01 42 25 18 82 (E) 307 mstly cldy none 02:01 43 14 18 87 (E) 274 cloudy none 03:01 42 21 17 96 (E) 267 cloudy none 04:01 44 11 15 98 (E) 169 cloudy none 05:01 43 12 14 95 (E) 183 cloudy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
