Dembicky, J. Barentine (1st half) J. Barentine's first night on the 3.5m. Welcome aboard John. I opened the enclosure around 19:25 with scattered clouds but looked promising. I started taking evening flats for the PU03 program tonight at which time the clouds promptly moved in the field I was observing as soon as I started taking them. I also accidently left the Ne on lamps on as well, but since these were cloud flats and not sky flats not much of a loss. I focused SPIcam, since the clouds looked to have now moved away far enough away for me to accomplish this. It was now too late to grab any more flats. Seeing was excellent at 0.74 arc sec at 60 deg altitude where I focused, but worse around 2237 since it is soo low on the horizon this time of year. I then moved the telescope down 2237 and started the Long script (60s, 90s, 120s exposures). Handed the instrument over to the 2nd set of observers at 21:20 and proceeded to focus DIS for them. Seeing was variable and avveraged around 1.5 arc sec. The winds picked up for a while as well with gusts of almost 34 MPH. Clouds came upon us suddenly at 00:45 just as the first half observers were finishing up. The clouds parted ways just before 02:00 and the 2nd half observers were able to finally start. Everything ran smoothly tonight with no problems. The re-homing of the NA2 guider camera filters (yesterday morning, see last nights log) seemed to have helped fix the blockage problem. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:03 SPIcam -280(1119) 115 65 16.7/18.2 75 12 r' 0.74 21:23 DISslit -260(954) 109 17 16.4/17.0 76 17 none 1.05 21:30 NA2guider 1789(57789) 113 73 16.4/16.9 70 15 R 0.91 02:05 SPIcam -210(1067) 117 57 14.4/14.5 54 23 z' 1.30 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 17:01 64 37 8 54 (NE) 504 Pt.
