As the evening progressed the clouds dispersed somewhat. No troubles during startup, everything functioning well. I checked drive surfaces again tonight and found not moth remnants, pointing was very good upon opening tonight. The clouds returned soon after twilight and stopped any useful data from being collected. I closed the dome at 22:30 due to the cloud cover. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan The sky remained partly to mostly cloudy during second half. Although the clouds were thin enough to allow focusing, they wouldn't permit any of the planned science for the night. Despite the first-half check, moth traces showed on both drive surfaces at shutdown. This may have been the cause of last night's pointing troubles -- nice because it means nothing is wrong with the telescope, nasty because it could and will happen again at any time for the next few months. Around 04:30, the wind shifted east and strengthened, the humidity rose, and the seeing probably got worse (but we weren't measuring it). The observers gave up soon afterward. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:23 GrIm f/5 50(938) 192 61 13.5/14.5 133 12 J 0.76" 19:26 NA2 Gdr -739(61360) 196 61 13.5/14.4 130 13 R 1.05" 03:13 SPIcam 50(1040) 41 55 11.2/11.3 91 10 i' 0.93 03:18 NA2gdr 2326(63326) 40 56 11.3/11.3 82 11 R 0.93 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 63 22 9 181 (S) 334 mstly cldy none 17:01 62 24 17 215 (SW) 291 mstly cldy none 18:01 59 21 13 158 (SSE) 387 ptly cldy none 19:01 56 21 13 142 (SE) 381 ptly cldy none 20:01 54 21 14 137 (SE) 551 mstly cldy none 21:01 53 22 19 131 (SE) 443 cloudy none 22:01 53 22 13 124 (SE) 408 cloudy none 23:01 53 21 14 126 (SE) 353 ptly cldy none 00:01 53 21 11 125 (SE) 307 mstly cldy none 01:01 54 20 12 133 (SE) 315 mstly cldy none 02:01 53 21 12 124 (SE) 326 ptly cldy none 03:01 53 21 12 109 (ESE) 306 mstly cldy none 04:01 52 20 10 88 (E) 337 mstly cldy none 05:01 49 27 15 76 (ENE) 353 mstly cldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
