Rosie Wyse is on site training some new remote observers. All seemed well during the first half, photometric skies and good seeing. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan Second half was clear with continued good seeing at first, moderate seeing later on. We had a few glitches during the night. The first half observers reported that the pointing was inconsistent in the range of 5-10 arcseconds; several possible causes and solutions are under consideration. There was a guider timeout error which cost just a couple of minutes when a pointing correction was being done. More seriously, just as the second half observers were starting up, GRIM began returning images that were all zero in one quadrant. This is a familiar GRIM error, but rarely (never?) before seen in the middle of the night when the instrument was fine during the first half. After the instrument was power cycled once, image quality was restored and observing went on. There was no further trouble after that. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:43 GrIm f/5 -25( 954) 204 59 14.6/16.5 165 23 J 0.89" 01:18 GrIm2(f/10) 15(952) -143 52 12.5/12.9 156 18 J 0.73 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 17:01 65 24 12 243 (WSW) 257 clear none 18:01 63 21 14 209 (SSW) 264 clear none 19:01 58 19 12 183 (S) 427 clear none 20:01 56 19 12 153 (SSE) 386 clear none 21:01 56 18 14 171 (S) 379 clear none 22:01 57 18 12 173 (S) 295 clear none 23:01 57 18 14 161 (SSE) 328 clear none 00:01 56 19 13 155 (SSE) 317 clear none 01:01 55 19 16 151 (SSE) 348 clear none 02:01 54 21 21 151 (SSE) 369 clear none 03:01 54 22 21 155 (SSE) 357 clear none 04:01 54 23 12 178 (S) 335 clear none 05:01 53 23 11 174 (S) 332 clear none 06:01 51 20 6 177 (S) 328 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
