Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2001 06:12:54 -0600 (MDT) From: Jack Dembicky Subject: 3.5m Night Log 20010613 [Note: I fudged the times on this one to make them add up. NM06 lost an hour to weather earlier in the morning, but then PU05's time was donated to them because the seeing was lousy. Time swaps between institutions can be hairy. So I counted the PU05 time as lost to weather (seeing) and dropped the NM06 time-lost account to 0.5 since they gained back half an hour by using the PU05 time. A dust event occured at 19:45 which required turning the cooling fans off (press fans turned on). At 20:08 the 1st half observers started their cals and biases with DIS although the wind/dust levels were still relatively high but just below closure limits. Opened the enclosure at 21:30. Seeing was measured at about 1.85 arc sec and stayed pretty poor (and a bit variable) thru the first half of the evening. Seeing started to improve a little around 01:00 (from the guider seeing measurement) between 1.3 and 1.8 arc sec. We had a dust event start at 02:50 but it didn't increase too quickly so I allowed the observers to finish observing their target and kept an eye on the dust levels. We closed at 03:05 since the levels were not dropping at that point and they finished their observations. I turned the press fans on to keep dust out and levels in the dome never exceeded 3600 cts with 30% humidity. A large dust clouds could be seen over the AFB in the valley when I closed the enclosure. Seeing was >2 arc sec when we closed due to the dust event. We reopened the enclosure at 04:00. The seeing was poor ( > 1.5 arc sec when checked) so I donated the PU05 time to the NM06 program. No problems.
