Turned GrIm on since the 1st half observers requested that they might decide to use it if it looked photometric (It didn't at sunset, but just to be safe it was checked out) I had serious problems calibrating the red grating on DIS tonight. It took me 1.5 hrs (20 iterations!!!) to finally get the grating center somewhat close (still 2 steps off, but that was about the best I could get it). PR was submitted as this problem needs immediate attention. The Blue grating calibrated in 2 iterations. We lost about 13 mins of time for the 1st program due to this problem (I spent all of twilight trying just to get the grating centered correctly). Opened the enclosure at 21:50 and did a focus check. Seeing was about 1.2 arc sec. The NA2 guider died around midnight and a call to Craig got it happy again. PR submitted with all the gory details of what happened and how to fix it. Handed instrument over to 2nd half observer a little ahead of schedule since the 1st half observer finished a little early due to clouds. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:52 DISslit -140(1319) 78 53 18.5/21.5 282 12 none 1.18 21:58 NA2gdr 575(56575) 78 54 18.2/21.2 275 11 none 1.26 01:20 DISslit -100(1169) 100 59 17.0/17.3 266 12 none 1.5 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 17:01 78 20 7 212 (SSW) 624 Pt.
