GrIm had a hickup tonight (wouldn't connect to the IC) and needed to be power cycled (fixed the problem). I handed the instrument over to the observers at 20:30 to do biases and lamps. They had some problem with the slitviewer not wanting to work on their 24 bit X-displays and needed to reboot to an 8-bit mode. That seemed to fix the problem. I opened the enclosure when they were ready at 21:20 and focused the instrument with 0.87 arc sec seeing! JH03 lost their internet connection for a couple mins, but it did not appear to affect their observations and they were able to get back up and running with no ill effects. I checked the focus at 23:16 and found the best focus was still where we found it earlier but the seeing was now a little more variable with focus measurements of 1.2 arc sec. The Sloan observers also confirmed this. Humidity went thru the roof at 12:00AM, but it was a false reading (instrument recalibrating itself) since it was dry outside and the sling psychrometer showed a humidity of 22%. We ignored it. I checked the focus again at changeover (01:24) and the seeing was around 1.4 arc sec and variable. When I mounted SPIcam for the PU05 program the seeing had again improved to 0.87 arc sec in r'. I believe I could see lobes off 2237 representing the cross. Everything ran smoothly tonight on our end. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:24 DISslit -70(1375) 245 74 19.8/22.4 226 9 none 0.87 01:23 DISslit -70(1259) 99 58 18.3/18.6 311 8 none 1.43 01:24 NA2gdr -1470(54529) 99 58 18.3/18.6 311 8 none 1.26 04:29 SPIcam 20(1426) 132 51 17.6/17.2 3 9 r' 0.78 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 17:01 78 19 5 260 (W) 711 Clear none 18:01 74 22 12 268 (W) 743 Clear none 19:01 74 20 11 311 (NW) 768 Clear none 20:01 69 23 2 264 (W) 910 Clear none 21:01 66 24 6 244 (WSW) 1034 Clear none 22:01 67 23 10 188 (S) 1023 Clear none 23:01 67 20 14 200 (SSW) 819 Clear none 00:01 66 18 6 268 (W) 887 Clear none 01:01 65 65 6 283 (WNW) 834 Clear none 02:01 65 18 9 304 (NW) 857 Clear none 03:01 63 17 5 329 (NNW) 832 Clear none 04:01 64 15 4 359 (N) 786 Clear none 05:01 64 15 17 19 (NNE) 660 Clear none 06:01 64 13 15 20 (NNE) 654 Clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
