Instruments were filled, as usual, but no checkout checklist was performed since the instrument was not useable tonight. I came in a little early to help Mark K. & Craig L. checkout an intermitent problem we have been having with the NA2 guider bias/background levels. I had archived some images taken on 4/28 which showed the problem. They adjusted the controller on the intermitent level but when the controller was power cycled the adjustments were lost. I also took some images once the sun had set and it was relatively dark in the enclosure of 5 sec "Dark" exposures (eyelid closed and dark enclosure) to compare to the image backgrounds taken on 4/28. Some bias frames were also taken with SPIcam to show the normal background levels for that instrument. I started examining night log automation TCL code to become familiar with what has been written and pick Craig L. brain on what he feels need to be done and how things work. When I filled the instruments at 03:30 I did a quick check of the echelle lamps just to be sure that last nights observers turned them off when they finished. They didn't and I found that the lamps on and they had been on all day (and tonight). I turned them off when I got back down to the control room. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 68 19 7 288 (WNW) 1947 Clear none 17:01 63 17 6 260 (W) 1753 Clear none 18:01 63 17 14 267 (W) 1783 Clear none 19:01 59 15 10 275 (W) 1782 Clear none 20:01 51 33 13 83 (E) 1479 Clear none 21:01 50 32 14 84 (E) 1643 Clear none 22:01 46 39 19 77 (ENE) 1616 Clear none 23:01 45 39 22 75 (ENE) 1633 Clear none 00:01 43 40 20 73 (ENE) 1676 Clear none 01:01 42 39 9 88 (E) 1894 Clear none 02:01 48 32 12 135 (SE) 2498 Clear none 03:01 50 29 12 151 (SSE) 2610 Clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
