Everything went smoothly with checkout and I let the observers use the instrument for their cals at 19:40. I opened the enclosure at 20:20 and proceded to focus the instrument as soon as it was dark enough. Seeing was just below 1 arc sec. I had them on their first target by 20:40. The seeing was fairly good between slightly less than 1 arc sec to about 1.5 arc sec up to about 23:30 when we moved to the NW part of the sky and the seeing was very variable between 1.2 and 2.4 arc sec using the guider. I tweeked the focus during the night to keep things in check, but this definately seemed to be seeing related. SDSS observers reported similiar observations as well with regard to the seeing. Switch over to SPIcam at 02:54 and had them back on the sky at 03:10. I started the 2237 quasar lens observing program at 04:33 with seeing variable between 1.5 to 0.95 arc sec between the exposures. I was able to get several images of the galaxy as well as rflats, but I was too late to get gflats. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:27 DISslit -60(1266) -124 43 14.8/17.2 250 7 none 0.99 20:35 NA2gdr -302(56747) -123 42 15.0/17.0 250 7 red 0.84 01:44 DISslit -30(1075) -156 59 13.4/13.4 316 14 none 1.17 03:20 SPIcam 50(1265) -39 64 13.9/13.4 358 7 z 0.84 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 65 24 10 263 (W) 814 Clear none 17:01 65 23 14 246 (WSW) 784 Clear none 18:01 63 21 0 249 (WSW) 680 Clear none 19:01 63 22 11 269 (W) 720 Clear none 20:01 57 24 4 273 (W) 868 Clear none 21:01 59 21 8 229 (SW) 923 Clear none 22:01 59 21 9 222 (SW) 843 Clear none 23:01 57 18 10 224 (SW) 1054 Clear none 00:01 57 19 7 266 (W) 1034 Clear none 01:01 56 20 6 275 (W) 1204 Clear none 02:01 56 22 7 320 (NW) 1094 Clear none 03:01 57 24 8 352 (N) 1100 Clear none 04:01 58 23 11 18 (NNE) 937 Clear none 05:01 56 23 7 357 (N) 999 Clear none 06:01 56 23 13 7 (N) 987 Clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
