We stayed closed. Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan There were brief sprinkles around midnight, just enough to drop the dust level. The wind gusts and clouds persisted for a while, but conditions reached a usable level (barely) shortly after 03:00, so we opened and were able to get some data through partial cloud cover, gusty winds, and bad seeing (2-4 arecsec). Everything went smoothly except that the telescope focus was extremely negative, perhaps because it had not been cooled much prior to opening; it rose from -500 to about -250 in less than an hour and a half, but the adjustments weren't actual focus runs and so weren't recorded in the log. We observed several targets, then had to close due to heavy clouds approaching from a direction with no reliable radar coverage. --------------- OBSERVER COMMENTS ---------------- L. Walkowicz(JH04): Lost about 75% of the night to clouds. Otherwise, everything functional-- no problems. Slitviewer is wonderful. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 03:35 DISslit -500(446) 185 63 7.2/8.1 67 24 - 2.19 03:38 NA2gdr 305(56305) 186 63 7.1/8.0 65 19 none 1.53 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 22 72 (ENE) 985 cloudy rain 17:01 58 24 10 73 (ENE) 1139 cloudy none 18:01 61 22 8 80 (E) 1455 cloudy none 19:01 57 28 20 74 (ENE) 1245 cloudy none 20:01 51 33 18 74 (ENE) 1311 cloudy none 21:01 50 32 22 63 (ENE) 1406 cloudy none 22:01 47 33 26 64 (ENE) 1218 cloudy none 23:01 43 36 31 62 (ENE) 521 cloudy none 00:01 43 36 28 55 (NE) 403 cloudy lt. rain 01:01 44 35 22 65 (ENE) 523 cloudy none 02:01 43 36 32 59 (ENE) 829 cloudy none 03:01 44 35 25 52 (NE) 363 ptly cldy none 04:01 43 35 28 62 (ENE) 549 ptly cldy none 05:01 44 34 23 76 (ENE) 527 cloudy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
