Seeing was poor (1.6-2.2 arcsec) and clouds continued to hamper observations for the first hour or so of observing. Shortly before midnight, the wind changed, the humidity plummeted, and the seeing improved to about 1.3 arcsec (but variable). During second half the humidity popped up again and seeing rose to >2 arcsec. I took a few minutes at the changeover to make another comparison of the DIS instrument focus vs. the slitviewer focus. Yesterday, in partly cloudy conditions, I found the instrument focus higher than the slitviewer. Tonight, in clear conditions but extremely variable seeing, I found the instrument focus lower than the slitviewer. I think this means they are as consistent as they can be within the limitations of the weather right now. The telescope and instruments behaved well. A source of noise on the slitviewer may have been fixed -- we'll be watching for its return. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:29 DISslit -250(880) 183 58 8.6/12.0 136 13 - 1.71 21:32 NA2gdr -884(55115) 185 58 8.7/11.9 136 13 none 1.60 00:59 DISslit 50(1134) 226 52 10.6/10.6 191 9 - 1.15 01:08 DIS(red) -25(1060) 229 51 10.3/10.5 267 7 - 1.43 01:09 DIS(blue) -25(1060) 229 51 10.3/10.5 267 7 - 1.79 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 61 37 24 226 (SW) 740 mstly cldy none 17:01 60 31 21 240 (WSW) 865 mstly cldy none 18:01 55 38 12 178 (S) 999 mstly cldy none 19:01 54 36 10 199 (SSW) 1084 mstly cldy none 20:01 52 37 12 189 (S) 1062 mstly cldy none 21:01 48 38 14 136 (SE) 676 ptly cldy none 22:01 48 36 12 142 (SE) 706 ptly cldy none 23:01 49 30 6 188 (S) 759 mstly clr none 00:01 52 16 16 222 (SW) 759 mstly clr none 01:01 51 21 10 216 (SW) 810 mstly clr none 02:01 49 25 11 217 (SW) 758 clear none 03:01 45 33 2 113 (ESE) 845 clear none 04:01 45 34 3 108 (ESE) 767 clear none 05:01 47 32 1 191 (S) 761 clear none 06:01 47 23 7 7 (N) 977 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
