Closed louvers to do DIS cal checkout at 18:00 and so enclosure would be dark for observers to do cals at 19:00. Opened the enclosure and louvers at 20:20 to focus the telescope. Clouds prevented us opening any sooner. Seeing was 1.4 arc sec at the start of the night and varried between 2 to 1.2 arc for the first half. Changeover occured on schedule at 01:00 and we did a quick focus check to make sure things were in focus. We had a problem with the DIS turret that a 'dis home' took care of. We Lost about 30 mins due to the problem. The seeing for the 2nd half was a bit variable and usually in the 1.2 to 1.5 arc sec range. It did improve to around 1.1 arc sec around 03:00 when some thin cirrus came thru. Everything ran smooth other than the glitch with DIS during the grating switch at the start of the 2nd half. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:30 DISslit -130(960) 0 54 9.2/12.7 108 8 none 1.44 20:34 NA2gdr 2327(58327) 0 54 9.2/12.7 124 11 none 1.34 01:08 DISslit 20(933) -60 45 7.7/7.9 172 8 none 1.36 01:11 NA2gdr 1189(57189) -60 45 7.8/7.7 165 8 none 1.18 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 54 26 2 210 (SSW) 1394 Mst Cldy none 17:01 56 27 1 240 (WSW) 1402 Mst Cldy none 18:01 56 25 3 210 (SSW) 1382 Pt Cldy none 19:01 53 25 5 242 (WSW) 1626 Pt Cldy none 20:01 51 22 7 174 (S) 1611 Pt Cldy none 21:01 48 19 14 125 (SE) 1523 Clear none 22:01 47 17 17 125 (SE) 1714 Clear none 23:01 47 19 10 97 (E) 1784 Clear none 00:01 49 18 3 179 (S) 1537 Clear none 01:01 46 25 8 164 (SSE) 1537 Clear none 02:01 45 25 6 147 (SSE) 1385 Clear none 03:01 47 23 3 160 (SSE) 1398 Cirrus none 04:01 48 23 2 208 (SSW) 1326 Cirrus none 05:01 48 23 2 313 (NW) 1455 Clear none 06:01 46 23 7 358 (N) 1465 Clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
