Clouds all scattered and photometric conditions moved in as twilight approached. I got SPIcam rolling and took 5 flats in each of the 5 UBVRI filters. After that focus and throughput measurements were started with SPIcam. Bob Lowenstein showed up but due to good weather we took the time for throughput. The SPIcam work went well and we switched to DIS at 21:15 for more throughput. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan During second half I obtained lots of pointing models at different collimations, in hopes that we can learn how to adjust collimation without re-taking a whole pointing model. I got a total of 5 60-point models; clouds moved in around 0200, during the third model, but didn't cause any real problems aside from making the seeing a little too good (in spite of the fact that the wind shifted to the East at the same time). I defocused a little to ensure that the stars could be recognized, and all went well. The final model, back at the default collimation, was applied for future use. By the end of that one the clouds were beginning to be a trial and precipitation was showing nearby on radar, so I thought it was a good time to quit. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:20 SPIcam -60(1087) 257 20 5.7/7.1 180 6 V 0.99" ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 49 20 10 259 (W) 245 ptly cldy none 17:01 47 20 10 249 (WSW) 276 ptly cldy none 18:01 42 19 1 262 (W) 338 clear none 19:01 41 18 4 180 (S) 356 clear none 20:01 40 19 7 180 (S) 323 clear none 21:01 40 18 6 181 (S) 364 clear none 22:01 40 18 7 175 (S) 406 clear none 23:01 43 10 6 264 (W) 425 clear none 00:01 41 16 9 206 (SSW) 355 clear none 01:01 39 17 9 140 (SE) 442 clear none 02:01 38 19 9 127 (SE) 446 ptly cldy none 03:01 39 18 10 143 (SE) 443 ptly cldy none 04:01 39 18 14 132 (SE) 444 mstly cldy none 05:01 39 20 17 131 (SE) 425 mstly cldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
