They cleared out around evening forth most part but left a lot of dry clouds in the area. We noticed as soon as the IRSC was started that the images and the weather data being displayed were from last night. Craig Loomis traced the problem and had it running by 19:00 MST. Jon Davis reported snowflakes on the APO approach road, so we closed again at 20:22 under heavily cloudy skies. The clouds did suddenly part about an hour later and we opened again at 21:35 MST. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan Second half was mostly clear, with variable seeing (0.9-1.6 arcsec on the guider). Part of the seeing variation was due to winds near the limit, and part was due to the fact that the telescope fans were not turned on again until after midnight. Since the remote observer was commanding DIS from the MC instead of Remark, there were a few difficulties with the instrument control, including a command collision that hung up the controller and necessitated a reboot. Aside from that, the instruments worked well and the telescope pointing was very accurate. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:50 SPIcam +50(796) 167 51 1.7/1.6 302 10 R 1.27" 21:57 Na2 Gdr 509(797) 168 51 1.6/1.6 319 16 R 1.13" 23:02 SPIcam 100(901) 194 51 1.7/1.5 6 13 r' 0.98 00:33 DISslit 100(728) 262 67 1.4/1.2 341 12 - 1.57 00:34 NA2gdr 1000(57000) 262 67 1.2/1.2 347 10 none 1.35 01:28 DISslit 0(640) 271 55 1.3/0.9 29 15 - 1.3 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:02 34 26 15 289 (WNW) 610 Cloudy Snow 17:02 35 25 11 273 (W) 686 Cloudy none 18:02 35 25 9 279 (W) 372 Cloudy none 19:02 35 25 9 284 (WNW) 348 Cloudy none 20:02 36 24 17 299 (WNW) 335 Cloudy none 21:02 36 22 18 303 (WNW) 312 Cloudy none 22:02 35 23 12 336 (NNW) 374 Clear none 23:02 35 20 11 331 (NNW) 426 mstly clr none 00:02 35 16 6 331 (NNW) 442 mstly clr none 01:02 34 15 25 339 (NNW) 401 mstly clr none 02:02 35 15 6 337 (NNW) 348 clear none 03:02 34 15 10 359 (N) 388 clear none 04:02 34 15 8 325 (NW) 355 cirrus none 05:02 33 15 2 356 (N) 341 cirrus none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
