Closed louvers at 17:20 to do DIS calibrations. Opened enclosure/louvers at 18:00. The remote observer was having connections problems due to security at NRAO that prevented him from controlling the telescope using REMARK. He could remote control SPIcam. I did the telescope positioning for him tonight. I also took evening flats starting at 18:25 for him in Ha and R (Ha was getting a little dark by the time I started but I snapped a couple). Seeing was sub arc sec, in R on Spicam, at the start of the run tonight. Remark lost connection (and could not re-connect) to the MCNode once tonight when I tried making a slew. I restarted the MC and it seemed to quickly solve the problem. Probably 5 mins lost due to problem. Otherwise everything ran smooth for the first half. 2nd half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan Second half was mostly clear, with just a little thin cirrus around and good to excellent seeing (0.6-1.2 arcseconds; I had to change the binning on the guider for a while, because the stars were too small). We had a little trouble with DIS at the beginning of first half due to an apparent command collision, but the recovery was pretty easy since no spectra had been taken yet. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:05 SPIcam -100(749) 7 47 1.6/3.7 258 0 R 0.75 19:26 NA2gdr -573(59426) 7 47 1.6/3.7 127 0 none 1.04 20:10 SPIcam 50(825) 16 50 2.3/2.2 6 9 R 0.76 00:30 DISslit 0(583) 151 81 1.0/0.6 345 13 - 0.99 00:33 NA2gdr -500(55500) 155 82 0.9/0.6 328 13 none 1.10 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 39 24 3 223 (SW) 598 clear none 17:01 39 24 3 215 (SW) 539 clear none 18:01 36 21 5 357 (N) 621 clear none 19:01 35 20 11 354 (N) 589 clear none 20:01 36 14 10 0 (N) 680 clear none 21:01 36 13 10 346 (NNW) 637 clear none 22:01 34 17 5 270 (W) 700 clear none 23:01 34 17 8 292 (WNW) 583 mstly clr none 00:01 34 15 9 357 (N) 708 mstly clr none 01:01 34 20 9 347 (NNW) 893 mstly clr none 02:01 35 18 11 4 (N) 729 mstly clr none 03:01 37 17 14 2 (N) 550 mstly clr none 04:01 38 18 3 298 (WNW) 467 clear none 05:01 38 13 12 10 (N) 407 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
