Closed louvers to do grating check for DIS at 17:20 and for observer to do lamps. Opened enclosure/opened louvers at 18:25 and turned the instrument over to the observer. Seeing was variable thru the first half with it varying between 1.4 and 2 arc sec. It seemed to improve (later in the night) according to the guider images. 2nd half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan Second half went quite smoothly, aside from a period of high winds that got up near the limit. Seeing at the beginning of first half was strongly related to the telescope's azimuth relative to the wind, but later the wind settled and the seeing went down to subarcsecond on the guider and approximately 1 arcsecond on the slitviewer. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:19 DIS-slit 70(694) 7 47 1.5/1.3 322 14 none 1.46 19:26 NA2gdr 1499(58548) 7 47 1.5/3.1 322 14 red 1.18 21:35 DIS-slit 30(618) 6 54 1.2/1.2 3 23 none 1.64 00:32 DISslit 50(628) 148 81 0.6/0.4 22 23 - 1.15 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 35 12 13 324 (NW) 345 mstly clr none 17:01 35 12 5 348 (NNW) 320 clear none 18:01 35 13 7 348 (NNW) 339 clear none 19:01 35 12 9 359 (N) 363 clear none 20:01 35 12 8 335 (NNW) 329 clear none 21:01 35 13 13 25 (NNE) 367 clear none 22:01 33 13 17 15 (NNE) 374 clear none 23:01 34 12 18 14 (NNE) 494 clear none 00:01 34 11 24 19 (NNE) 524 clear none 01:01 33 14 20 12 (NNE) 502 clear none 02:01 32 15 10 24 (NNE) 480 clear none 03:01 31 12 10 356 (N) 542 clear none 04:01 30 14 9 0 (N) 583 clear none 05:01 28 16 3 25 (NNE) 625 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
