I checked the roof and it was clear of ice and snow. When I checked the instruments the echelle lamps were found on and the echelle transfer dewar pressure was at 0 psi. Russet noted that this happened in early AM when she left this morning as well. I filled and repressurized the echelle and heard it successfully complete a fill cycle. I turned the echelle lamp off. At 19:26 the PMSS alarms in the 3.5m Control *Building* (not the secondary level) went off. I believe that this alarm is now only representative of the new air screw system and has not relevance to the 3.5m PMSS. Never-the-less, I stopped the telescope and checked our system out thoroughly. It appeared all well, so we went back on the sky with minimal time loss. We stopped observing at 20:34 due to thickening clouds. We started again at 21:35 Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan During second half, we observed through variable cloud cover and extremely variable seeing (0.9-2.5 arcseconds, changing back and forth in a few minutes). Everything worked smoothly aside from some confusion about direction of offsets in the GFP control software. I took a couple of flats with the echelle and confirmed that the lamp brightness is about the same as it was before, so there appears to be no harm done although it was left on for two weeks. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:10 GFP 25(661) 2 55 -5.4/-5.2 299 15 V 1.98" 20:15 GFP 25(661) 3 55 -5.4/-5.2 295 15 B 1.72" 21:35 NA2 Gdr 1500(522) -11 53 -5.9/-5.7 314 12 none 1.28" 22:55 gfp 0(498) 150 64 -6.2/-6.3 288 12 B 0.96 02:52 gfp 30(565) 131 59 -4.8/-5.7 273 10 B 1.21 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 28 5 21 292 (WNW) 620 Ptly Cldy none 17:01 27 8 10 257 (WSW) 471 Ptly Cldy none 18:01 24 8 22 293 (WNW) 440 Ptly Cldy none 19:01 23 8 12 279 (W) 452 Cloudy none 20:01 23 8 9 287 (WNW) 493 Cloudy none 21:01 22 9 14 310 (NW) 432 Ptly Cldy none 22:01 22 11 12 340 (NNW) 497 cirrus none 23:01 21 11 11 294 (WNW) 538 cirrus none 00:01 22 6 6 272 (W) 425 mstly clr none 01:01 22 11 14 293 (WNW) 428 mstly clr none 02:01 22 12 10 304 (NW) 405 cirrus none 03:01 23 9 11 289 (WNW) 324 cirrus none 04:01 24 8 14 303 (WNW) 310 cirrus none 05:01 26 1 12 300 (WNW) 187 cirrus none 06:01 27 -6 9 269 (W) 207 cirrus none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
