Instrument and weather were cooperating. The NA2 eyelid bit was left set, which disables the manual control switches, so if you control them with software, please clear the bit before AM so day staff can use the control switches. No problems encountered other than that, things ran smooth. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan Observations went smoothly second half as well. Seeing appeared to be fairly good most of the time, but the delivered image quality was not so great because the air temperature was fluctuating a lot, causing large changes in focus over the timescale of a single science exposure. Late in the morning, we heard news of an X-ray luminous GRB with poorly-known position, so we switched to DIS in order to use its larger field of view to search, and take spectra if possible. We were unable to find any optical counterpart before twilight arrived, but at least everyone was wide awake! The NA2 eyelid caused some more trouble during shutdown as well, so we should probably stick to manual control both night and day for the time being. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:50 GFP -25(1045) 244 47 5.9/6.9 273 5 4000A 0.94" 18:59 NA2 Gdr 2000(????) 247 45 5.8/6.6 278 7 R 0.89" 19:50 GFP 0(0987) 7 54 5.1/5.7 269 5 4000A 0.79" 19:52 NA2 Gdr 2116(0982) 7 54 5.0/5.7 271 6 R 1.04" 02:18 gfp 50(1029) 245 52 4.8/3.9 183 7 4000 1.04 03:55 gfp -50(901) 233 55 4.0/3.6 179 11 4000 1.22 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 49 11 6 268 (W) 348 clear none 17:01 48 11 6 260 (W) 390 clear none 18:01 41 6 6 272 (W) 363 clear none 19:01 41 6 6 279 (W) 409 clear none 20:01 42 6 5 263 (W) 453 clear none 21:01 42 5 5 263 (W) 487 clear none 22:01 41 7 7 198 (SSW) 464 clear none 23:01 40 6 9 180 (S) 490 clear none 00:01 39 9 9 179 (S) 519 clear none 01:01 38 9 10 148 (SSE) 506 clear none 02:01 41 6 8 182 (S) 498 clear none 03:01 38 4 10 168 (SSE) 528 clear none 04:01 40 2 11 179 (S) 568 clear none 05:01 41 -4 7 183 (S) 810 mstly clr none 06:01 40 -4 8 231 (SW) 745 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
