I was only in for a short while to setup the telescope and then Russet came in to take over at 18:15 MST. All systems were tested and running smoothly. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan After some time spent working on calibrations, the GFP team was ready to start observations around 20:30. By that time, the telescope was well cooled, so the focus values were consistent for most of the night. Seeing was good (0.6-1.4 arcsec on the guider, with several hours of consistent subarcsecond seeing), and the telescope pointing was excellent. On two occasions, secondary updates did cause an image jump, so observing specialists should make an effort to time updates between exposures. The only other difficulties were shooting through the clouds and a few instrument problems. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:28 GFP -25(996) 103 55 4.2/5.1 262 14 8500 0.95 20:31 NA2gdr * -3875(60124) 103 56 4.0/5.0 266 15 none 0.91 00:05 GFP 0(988) 155 61 4.9/4.7 267 8 8200 1.01 * The guider focus zeropoint was changed after this measurement. ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 50 13 7 231 (SW) 592 clear none 17:01 47 13 13 249 (WSW) 597 clear none 18:01 43 11 12 242 (WSW) 590 clear none 19:01 41 12 14 220 (SW) 656 clear none 20:01 41 9 13 267 (W) 628 mstly clr none 21:01 38 12 10 260 (W) 563 cirrus none 22:01 40 12 10 264 (W) 638 cirrus none 23:01 42 13 9 269 (W) 562 cirrus none 00:01 41 12 9 273 (W) 614 mstly clr none 01:01 41 13 13 266 (W) 663 cirrus none 02:01 41 14 12 266 (W) 614 mstly clr none 03:01 40 15 18 250 (WSW) 571 mstly clr none 04:01 39 15 12 265 (W) 538 mstly clr none 05:01 39 15 14 268 (W) 542 mstly clr none 06:01 38 16 11 276 (W) 546 mstly clr none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
