The observer from last nights Princeton program logged on to get some flats that were not obtained last night, but it went quick and did not interfere with anything this evening. First on was NMSU tracking Venus with the Echelle. After a little work, we were tracking happily and taking data. No problems encountered. We switched over to the second program without incident and all ran smoothly. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan Humidity was at a borderline level when I came in, with the secondary (the coldest part of the telescope) just within the closure limits. A Sloan observer reported finding some frost on the 2.5m, so I went up to check the telescope in person. I found no sign of frost accumulation, and the dewpoint was beginning to drop, so there was no need to close. But the inspection did cause a delay of a few minutes. Second half was cold, with lower humidity and moderate to poor seeing (1.1 - 1.8 arcsec at reasonable airmass). The telescope and instrument behaved very well; for the last few nights, the pointing has been much better than it was a couple of weeks ago. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:55 Echelle -315(696) 157 67 -6.2/-2.2 83 8 ND3 2.16 20:05 Echelle -78(810) 324 67 -8.3/-7.7 89 3 ND3 1.21 22:25 Echelle +59(668) 126 60 -8.3/-8.1 358 7 ND3 1.06 00:08 DISslit 100(312) 56 67 -6.6/-7.9 82 9 - 1.27 00:11 NA2gdr 328(56328) 55 68 -6.2/-7.9 86 9 none 1.19 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 26 16 0 251 (WSW) 492 Clear None 17:01 24 15 4 256 (WSW) 588 Clear None 18:01 20 9 11 80 (E) 336 Clear None 19:01 17 9 11 82 (E) 380 Clear None 20:01 18 10 2 96 (E) 459 Clear None 21:01 20 12 2 342 (NNW) 656 Clear None 22:01 19 12 6 358 (N) 612 Clear None 23:01 20 12 0 331 (NNW) 576 Clear None 00:01 20 4 8 84 (E) 481 Clear None 01:01 23 -23 6 91 (E) 549 Clear None 02:01 21 -18 4 108 (ESE) 697 Clear None 03:01 22 -26 1 119 (ESE) 1016 Clear None 04:01 22 -24 4 89 (E) 887 Clear None 05:01 22 -20 1 353 (N) 914 Clear None 06:01 23 -26 4 0 (N) 821 Clear None note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
