John B. helped again tonight with the instrument checkout. Clouds prevented opening until 20:20 (we were still under clouds but had patches of thinner stuff moving thru and minimal threat of precipitation with 4% humidity). I let the 1st half observers have a go at trying to collect photons, even with the pesky clouds. They didn't complain and there were some times when the clouds parted ways long enough. They were going after 20th mag objects with DIS so conditions were poor at best. Clouds persisted all night long. The 2nd half observers started at 00:08 when the first half finished. Clouds got too thick to gather any useful data thru at 01:08. We started again at 02:08 even with the pesky clouds and closed a little early since there wasn't much more to be gained shooting thru them all the way to the end of the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:26 DISslit -90(274) 103 57 1.3/2.4 245 6 none 1.34 20:35 NA2gdr 2000(59000) 105 59 0.1/2.1 235 7 clear 1.22 00:21 DISslit 10(360) 24 57 2.5/1.6 269 12 none 1.16 00:28 NA2gdr 1781(58781) 23 58 2.5/1.6 275 11 R 1.25 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 38 -29 6 356 (N) 250 Cirrus none 17:01 38 -27 8 300 (WNW) 281 Cirrus none 18:01 37 -29 6 272 (W) 222 Cloudy none 19:01 36 -30 6 274 (W) 269 Cloudy none 20:01 35 -29 3 263 (W) 312 Cloudy none 21:01 34 -29 8 228 (SW) 561 Cloudy none 22:01 34 -29 5 279 (W) 648 Cloudy none 23:01 35 -30 8 267 (W) 592 Cloudy none 00:01 36 -29 11 271 (W) 487 Cloudy none 01:01 36 -30 6 266 (W) 446 Cloudy none 02:01 36 -30 12 283 (WNW) 477 Cloudy none 03:01 35 -31 16 310 (NW) 537 Cloudy none 04:01 35 -31 13 299 (WNW) 520 Cloudy none 05:01 35 -30 14 307 (NW) 284 Cloudy none 06:01 36 -30 11 302 (WNW) 180 Cloudy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
