Held off on opening enclosure until winds fell below closure limits. I opened enclosure at 16:50. John B. helped with setup and the 2237 observations tonight. We handed the instrument over to the 2nd observer slightly ahead of schedule at around 18:28. The wind picked up around 20:40 and we needed to close at 20:50 when gusts were over the closure limit. We opened back up around 21:50 but clouds prevented any data to be taken until 22:40. By 23:00 the humidity was on the rise, clouds were rolling in and the winds went above closure limits again. We once again opened around 03:50 with poor seeing (>2.5 arc sec). The only improved slightly near the end of the night (around 2 arc sec). No hardware problems but the 2nd half observers had some problems with the SPIcam software using the window mode to do partial chip reads. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:48 SPIcam -100(514) 181 61 4.4/5.1 196 23 r' 1.22 17:51 NA2gdr 202(61202) 181 61 4.4/5.1 196 23 R 1.26 18:37 SPIcam 0(590) 192 53 3.8/4.0 209 22 z' 1.03 18:52 NA2gdr 1283(62283) 197 52 4.0/3.9 219 22 R 1.35 22:08 SPIcam -60(365) 145 52 -0.9/-0.0 254 18 z' 2.14 04:22 SPIcam -250(-28) 130 63 -5.5/-3.6 272 11 B 2.48 04:30 NA2gdr 4136(65136) 134 64 -5.6/-3.8 280 12 R 1.87 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 43 22 30 206 (SSW) 391 Clear none 17:01 40 21 21 198 (SSW) 419 Clear none 18:01 40 20 22 199 (SSW) 514 Clear none 19:01 39 18 18 218 (SW) 279 Clear none 20:01 36 14 29 262 (W) 920 Mst.
