Brian logged in a little after 17:00 and began taking biases. Seeing started off great, around 0.65 arcsec, but degraded down to about 1.1 and stayed there for several hours. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half was clear with good seeing (usually less than 1.2 arcsec and sometimes as low as 0.7 arcsec), but it was hard to take advantage of the seeing because of the unusual behavior of the focus, probably associated with some sudden changes in temperature. Aside from the official values logged below, I was chasing the focus for hundreds of steps during much of the morning. In addition to the focus, we had some other oddities, including what appeared to be residual charge on the red chip for the first few exposures. None of this strangeness resulted in lost data or time, so all was well. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:23 SPIcam -100(513) -71 65 3.4/3.5 317 8 z' 0.61 18:26 NA2gdr -606(60393) -71 65 3.2/3.5 329 9 R 0.78 19:04 SPIcam 0(621) -71 57 3.5/3.3 280 8 z' 0.60 19:06 NA2gdr 552(61552) -71 57 3.4/3.3 276 7 R 1.04 00:16 DISslit -150(387) 241 36 3.9/2.8 259 5 - 0.86 00:20 NA2gdr -5103(51896) 242 35 3.9/2.8 256 5 R 0.85 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 38 -10 0 233 (SW) 215 clear none 17:01 36 -9 6 326 (NW) 225 clear none 18:01 36 -11 7 336 (NNW) 283 clear none 19:01 38 -8 7 291 (WNW) 155 clear none 20:01 39 -5 4 260 (W) 127 clear none 21:01 39 -5 7 266 (W) 162 clear none 22:01 39 -6 7 263 (W) 161 clear none 23:01 39 -10 5 264 (W) 245 clear none 00:01 34 -6 6 247 (WSW) 139 clear none 01:01 37 -11 5 203 (SSW) 289 clear none 02:01 39 -13 7 226 (SW) 257 clear none 03:01 39 -13 5 187 (S) 245 clear none 04:01 37 -12 8 183 (S) 177 clear none 05:01 39 -10 5 186 (S) 132 clear none 06:01 39 -16 7 183 (S) 121 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
