All systems started up fine except for the non-operative mirror covers, which were operated manually. I began observing for the lens monitoring program but before hand I obtained some flats for the UW program in 3x3 binning. Switchover went smoothly. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan Second half was clear and apparently photometric with variable seeing (0.8 to 3.0, although the worst measurements were at very high airmass). After the FTS observers acquired some standards using SPIcam, the instrument was mounted. There were some instrument difficulties at the beginning, but once we got on the sky everything went smoothly except for a brief hiatus when the MC hung up and needed to be restarted. I permitted the observers to work past sunrise provided the telescope remained pointing west. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------------------------------- UW09/O T/S 02:20 02:24 MC needed restart ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:45 SPIcam 20(527) 175 61 1.1/2.5 274 7 r' 0.93" 17:50 NA2 Gdr 1623(62630) 176 61 1.1/2.6 270 7 R 1.21" 18:37 SPIcam -75(450) 228 45 0.2/1.5 303 9 r' 0.71" 18:41 NA2 Gdr 1854(56998) 229 44 0.3/1.6 306 10 R 0.89" 23:00 SPIcam 0(441) 175 57 0.1/-0.7 270 7 R 0.81 02:31 FTS -300(203)* 321 60 2.2/1.0 244 8 R 0.94 * The zeropoint for the instrument was changed after this measurement --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 39 14 7 297 (WNW) 162 clear none 17:01 34 15 2 235 (SW) 479 clear none 18:01 33 12 6 289 (WNW) 41 clear none 19:01 32 11 7 297 (WNW) 157 clear none 20:01 32 12 7 304 (NW) 206 clear none 21:01 31 14 5 274 (W) 352 clear none 22:01 32 12 5 283 (WNW) 95 clear none 23:01 32 15 6 270 (W) 213 clear none 00:01 32 14 1 237 (WSW) 263 clear none 01:01 34 8 6 255 (WSW) 72 clear none 02:01 36 4 7 229 (SW) 25 clear none 03:01 35 3 7 218 (SW) 17 clear none 04:01 35 3 6 227 (SW) 22 clear none 05:01 33 6 6 238 (WSW) 69 clear none 06:01 34 6 6 288 (WNW) 60 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
