Dembicky Started cooling (fans on) at 16:30, opened enclosure at 17:20. Things ran smoothly tonight except for a software glitch with DIS. The seeing was very varible tonight night requiring frequent focus adjustments. Erica was going to try imaging with DIS (using the mirrors instead of the gratings) and had a problem with the turret move command being rejected. Subsequent commands would not go thru either and I could not reset the instrument via restarting the ICC computer or initializing the instrument. A call to Craig (and a quick fix to the DIS software) fixed the problem and allowed me to clear DIS using the 'dis clear' command to clear the problem. Craig said either a command collision had occured or a command that was sent somehow horribly went wrong and kept further commands from going to DIS. About 30 mins was lost due to the problem and getting it resolved. ------------- FAILURE LOG ------------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O T/I/U-S/H START FINISH DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------------------------------- CU02/D I/S 01:40 02:10 Command collision with grating move to mirror. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:32 DISslit 180(729) 140 44 4.9/5.3 56 9 none 1.07" 18:16 DISslit -60(395) 93 69 3.4/4.8 53 9 none 0.95" 18:17 NA2gdr -180(56819) 93 69 3.4/4.8 53 9 R 0.93" 19:34 DISslit -40(362) 146 75 4.3/3.9 17 10 none 1.31" 19:42 NA2gdr -226(56773) 154 76 4.7/3.8 35 11 R 1.29" 00:14 DISslit -80(397) 68 33 2.3/2.2 2 8 none 1.60" 00:31 NA2gdr -750(56250) 70 36 2.4/2.1 357 7 clear 1.48" 02:28 DISslit 0(445) 118 32 2.5/1.3 337 9 none 1.75" 02:33 NA2gdr -1540(57559) 119 33 2.7/1.4 329 12 R+ND 1.43" --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 37 25 0 325 (NW) 304 Clear none 17:01 41 25 3 90 (E) 400 Clear none 18:01 38 23 5 26 (NNE) 176 Clear none 19:01 37 11 7 17 (NNE) 111 Clear none 20:01 40 4 0 257 (WSW) 54 Clear none 21:01 40 -2 0 304 (NW) 79 Clear none 22:01 38 6 1 324 (NW) 103 Clear none 23:01 37 11 6 348 (NNW) 116 Clear none 00:01 35 11 5 356 (N) 119 Clear none 01:01 36 7 6 335 (NNW) 82 Clear none 02:01 34 -12 7 349 (NNW) 27 Clear none 03:01 37 -26 13 326 (NW) 19 Clear none 04:01 38 -29 9 354 (N) 10 Clear none 05:01 37 -14 10 6 (N) 24 Clear none 06:01 38 1 11 4 (N) 103 Clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
