Hastings Sky was clear at sunset, but humidity started to ramp up as sun set forcing me to close. I was about to turn over time to next program for cals when the humidity suddenly dropped again! I marched upstairs to open again when.... Upon starting flats I found a failure with the azimuth. The problem was traced to an electronics unit in the azimuth controller. I tested some components on the unit in question and discovered a bad fuse, replaced it and we were back online, with excellent seeing! All else ran smoothly until shift change. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: J. Dembicky There was a problem with the Alt location not being recognized, which prevented the 2nd'ry from moving for SPIcam, after the instrument switch. I killed the drives and then re-initialized them along with a test slew from the TCC and Remark. That seemed to clear the problem. I focused SPIcam for the 2nd half observers then to make sure everything was working properly and get them on their way. No PR was submitted since it seemed to be a interim problem that fixed itself after re-initialization of the drives. Everything rans smoothly tonight and we also saw a very nice meteor shower here at APO to boot! ------------- FAILURE LOG ------------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O T/I/U-S/H START FINISH DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------------------------------- PU05/S T/H 17:27 18:42 Az failure, Glentek #1 UC07/D T/H 18:42 19:31 continuation of previous UC01/S T/H 00:10 00:16 Alt Location not recognized ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:39 DIS Slit -275(357) 207 70 7.9/9.0 194 4 none 0.79" 19:44 NA2 Gdr -1004(55956) 211 70 7.9/9.0 214 2 R 0.62" 21:49 DIS Slit 50(527) 224 49 3.9/3.9 203 5 none 0.84" 21:52 NA2 Gdr 1124(58122) 224 49 3.8/3.9 199 5 R 0.86" 00:13 SPIcam -25(602) 213 43 3.7/3.7 182 6 r' 0.58" 00:30 NA2gdr 948(61948) 216 42 4.2/3.8 183 6 R 0.69" --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 44 32 2 263 (W) 56 clear none 17:01 39 33 2 339 (NNW) 46 clear none 18:01 39 28 4 350 (N) 108 clear none 19:01 37 27 4 266 (W) 90 clear none 20:01 39 26 2 181 (S) 76 clear none 21:01 38 24 5 180 (S) 44 clear none 22:01 40 22 1 192 (SSW) 55 clear none 23:01 40 19 1 257 (WSW) 35 clear none 00:01 40 22 4 189 (S) 41 clear none 01:01 40 21 6 185 (S) 28 clear none 02:01 39 22 2 209 (SSW) 24 cirrus none 03:01 39 23 7 221 (SW) 37 cirrus none 04:01 39 21 7 190 (S) 29 cirrus none 05:01 36 27 6 251 (WSW) 66 cirrus none 06:01 38 28 6 273 (W) 64 cirrus none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
