Louvers were closed for DIS checkout at 17:40 but fans were left on. I opened the enclosure around 19:05 when the observers finished taking their cals and flats. Seeing was mediocre at best around 1.5 arc sec. We re-focused about an hour later and the best we could manage was again about 1.5 arc sec. The seeing improved for about 30 mins around 23:00 but rapidly grew worse in the 1.7-3.0 arc sec range and very variable. The guider had a hard time locking onto stars with such poor seeing but we managed. Sloan also reported deplorable seeing as well. The seeing improved to sub arc sec at times (off the guider) after the wind changed direction at 02:00. The rest of the night saw seeing 1.5 arc sec or better depending on the elevation of the telescope. By around 4:30 the seeing once again started deteriorating back to around 2.5 arc by the end of the night. Everything ran smoothly hardware wise tonight other than a minor glitch in the NA2 guider during checkout that was quickly resolved by Craig and Myself. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:05 DISslit -330(411) 109 62 7.3/11.9 78 16 none 1.52 19:18 NA2gdr -635(56364) 112 64 7.0/10.9 79 18 R 1.63 20:25 DISslit -130(515) 106 48 6.3/7.8 84 11 none 1.53 20:32 NA2gdr -878(56121) 108 49 6.5/7.7 87 12 R 1.46 22:40 DISslit -70(484) 145 51 5.2/5.9 75 15 none 1.59 22:44 NA2gdr 2000(5900) 146 52 5.2/5.9 76 17 none 2.12 00:52 DISslit 90(595) 190 58 6.6/5.3 84 5 none 1.67 00:52 NA2gdr -754(56245) 190 58 6.6/5.3 84 5 none 2.05 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 61 22 9 210 (SSW) 818 Cirrus none 17:01 57 23 5 245 (WSW) 609 Lt.
