Tonight I noticed that the MC would not talk to the echelle when I issued commands to check temp, but the ICC was communicating with the echelle. I discussed this with Craig and we have an idea as to the problem and will try and implement tomorrow so that we will not impact observing tonight. All else was working well. Tonight I tried out a new script for the lens monitoring project with great success. Seeing improved to subarcsecond soon after twilight end. The guider was quite unhappy with this. I tried using the 'goodseeing' routine Russet developed, no luck, it still ignored the guide star. I tried to rebin to 2x2 with no luck. I defocused it somewhat with some luck. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan Second half was mostly clear, although some very thin clouds showed up starting around 02:00. Seeing was generally very good (0.6-1 arcsec), except at very high airmasses. The guider did have some trouble identifying stars under the best seeing conditions, but usually kept going with a moderate amount of babysitting. Aside from that, there was no trouble at all. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:13 SPIcam -140(749) 125 46 8.5/10.2 350 3 r' 1.13" 19:18 NA2 Gdr 1776(61734) 125 46 8.5/10.3 355 9 R 1.29" 20:07 DIS Slit -100(612) 195 50 8.8/ 9.4 288 8 none 0.97" 20:14 NA2 Gdr -470(56528) 195 50 8.9/ 9.4 265 6 R 0.91" --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 52 15 4 351 (N) 539 clear none 17:01 53 17 0 239 (WSW) 711 clear none 18:01 50 17 2 2 (N) 747 clear none 19:01 49 14 9 351 (N) 657 clear none 20:01 49 19 7 300 (WNW) 446 clear none 21:01 49 20 6 271 (W) 441 clear none 22:01 48 21 7 266 (W) 452 clear none 23:01 48 20 8 265 (W) 524 clear none 00:01 48 20 7 264 (W) 504 clear none 01:01 48 20 5 264 (W) 444 clear none 02:01 48 21 6 271 (W) 492 mstly clr none 03:01 48 21 6 274 (W) 513 mstly clr none 04:01 48 20 7 271 (W) 505 mstly clr none 05:01 48 20 7 285 (WNW) 445 mstly clr none 06:01 45 20 5 270 (W) 519 mstly clr none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
