Barentine At the request of the observers for the purpose of taking cals, opening was delayed tonight until 19:20. Soon after, the observer reported that the pointing was off and asked if the rotator was working properly. Offsets seemed to be sending the image in the wrong direction. Craig read through logs and noted that the rotator was left at a position of -161 this morning at 9AM. The thought that the rotator would be upside down didn't even cross my mind when I mounted DIS. The NA2 guider failed at about 21:00 requiring a hard restart of the guider box and restarting the guider software. Craig was present when this occurred. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R. McMillan Second half had mostly clear skies aside from occasional very thin cirrus. The seeing was good to excellent most of the time except at high airmasses. There was no sign of the azimuth noise from last night, nor any kind of tracking problem. Everything went very smoothly; the only oddity was a period around midnight when the guider focus changed rapidly by a large amount but the instrument focus remained constant. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:50 NA2Gdr 5696( ) 105 57 9.9/12.0 237 5 R 0.88 20:45 DISslit -100( ) 20:58 NA2Gdr -4956( ) -61 35 10.6/10.9 235 10 R 0.80 04:30 DISslit -50(667) 172 56 8.5/8.2 241 3 - 0.83 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 19:01 51 9 2 251 (WSW) 870 ptly cldy none 20:01 51 10 7 231 (SW) 1324 mstly clr none 21:01 51 18 8 243 (WSW) 744 mstly clr none 22:01 51 16 7 218 (SW) 859 ptly cldy none 23:01 50 15 2 183 (S) 1419 mstly clr none 00:01 51 18 4 232 (SW) 1093 clear none 01:01 50 18 4 194 (SSW) 1018 clear none 02:01 47 21 6 206 (SSW) 951 clear none 03:01 48 28 5 263 (W) 1463 mstly clr none 04:01 47 28 2 197 (SSW) 1271 mstly clr none 05:01 48 29 5 253 (WSW) 1566 mstly clr none 06:01 48 30 8 267 (W) 1388 mstly clr none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
