Upon dis-assembly/inspection they found excessive wear in the motor housing from the steel assembly wearing agaainst the cast aluminum housing. This wear caused aluminum shavings to build up in the housing and eventually get into the brake assembly, which is the cause of the squeel that Russet heard a couple nights ago. Because the motor assy. is still dis-assembled, and in repair, the telescope remained closed for the entire night with Mark locking out the power out to the drive motors. Not much was lost since the humidity was too high to open and clouds would have prevented any observations. Expected rebuild/re-assembly of the drive is 14:00 tommorow. Russet called in at 22:00 to check on the weather conditions. Since there was no science being done tonight with the telescope motor broken, and no real need for her to drive all the way here under icy road conditions from the snow earlier in the afternoon. I stayed and filled the cameras for her at 04:30. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 34 27 22 129 (SE) 325 pt. cldy none 17:01 32 27 18 133 (SE) 372 pt. cldy none 18:01 31 27 22 138 (SE) 508 cloudy none 19:01 32 27 26 135 (SE) 528 cloudy none 20:01 30 25 21 126 (SE) 482 cloudy none 21:01 28 24 14 128 (SE) 690 cloudy lt. snow 22:01 24 21 5 82 (E) 640 cloudy none 23:01 22 19 15 108 (ESE) 558 cloudy none 00:01 26 23 12 141 (SE) 822 cloudy none 01:01 26 23 12 143 (SE) 859 cloudy none 02:01 26 22 13 128 (SE) 790 cloudy none 03:01 26 22 2 177 (S) 752 cloudy none 04:01 25 20 1 194 (SSW) 646 cloudy none 05:01 23 22 5 356 (N) 431 cloudy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
