It was a beautiful day outside and there were no problems encountered first half. One curious guider failure that Craig looked at that seems to be some anomaly. Something to the effect of "guider binning does not match image size". I had not seen it before. Anyway, all ran well after that although the seeing was very poor and humidity high until about 22:30 when the seeing improved greatly. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan Second half was mostly clear with a few weather difficulties. Seeing was again quite variable, though not as much so as last night -- perhaps 1.0 to 3.0 arcseconds, with the worst measurements being at high airmass. The telescope was closed for an hour when the dewpoint got too close to the secondary temperature; although the dewpoint didn't drop much while we were closed, the secondary warmed enough to re-open. The wind started to rise sharply after 05:00, and the dome was closed at 05:15 for the remainder of the night. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:10 DIS Slit -150(426) 113 76 -1.6/+1.8 110 07 none 2.05" 18:14 NA2 Gdr -1300(418) 114 76 -1.6/+1.7 112 07 none 2.31" 22:27 DIS Slit -110(287) -029 74 -2.0/-2.1 152 18 none 1.11" 22:30 NA2 Gdr -4131(285) -030 73 -2.0/-2.2 149 18 none 1.17" 23:32 DISslit 0(470) -43 74 -1.3/-2.1 171 14 - 1.12 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 38 21 7 185 (S) 232 cirrus none 17:01 33 24 11 142 (SE) 285 cirrus none 18:01 29 24 6 89 (E) 351 cirrus none 19:01 29 18 9 131 (SE) 275 cirrus none 20:01 30 15 19 133 (SE) 281 cirrus none 21:01 29 17 20 128 (SE) 476 clear none 22:01 29 19 18 152 (SSE) 539 clear none 23:01 30 20 18 161 (SSE) 496 clear none 00:01 30 21 16 174 (S) 529 clear none 01:01 28 21 17 171 (S) 608 clear none 02:01 28 22 21 164 (SSE) 925 mstly clr none 03:01 28 22 23 156 (SSE) 998 mstly clr none 04:01 28 21 26 174 (S) 1162 cirrus none 05:01 29 21 32 173 (S) 865 cirrus none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
