I opened at 17:17 MST thanks to Jon, Mark and Ron for getting the motors together. High resolution gratings were installed in DIS and calibrated without incident and then the tertiary was moved to NA1 for the Echelle first half. The humidity began to rise right after opening and we were forced to close at 18:17 MST. I waited a little longer than normal since the mirror was warm being that we had just opened. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan UW08 had first half instead of UW05 because SPIcam is not currently available, and UW03 took second half instead of UW02 as payment for a time swap earlier in the month. The humidity started to drop after 23:00, but lingered at uncomfortable levels too long for the first half observer to get anything. We opened at 23:55, and I spent a few minutes doing a pointing check and a quick test of the tertiary movement, so that UW03 started just on schedule. Second half was mostly clear with extremely variable seeing (everything from 0.8 to 3.8 arcseconds, including large variations on timescales of ten minutes on the same field). The telescope and instruments generally behaved well, and many spectra were obtained. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:05 Echelle -223(489) 233 30 -2.3/-0.6 348 06 ND2 1.87" 00:24 DISslit -50(411) 58 64 -1.8/-2.6 21 14 - 1.12 00:27 NA2gdr 69(56069) 58 64 -1.9/-2.6 44 14 none 0.98 03:13 DISslit -20(477) -68 52 -1.7/-2.5 17 8 - 1.65 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 35 24 8 283 (WNW) 367 Clear None 17:01 29 23 9 321 (NW) 327 Clear None 18:01 27 24 6 344 (NNW) 324 Clear None 19:01 27 24 11 32 (NNE) 310 Clear None 20:01 27 24 5 355 (N) 223 Clear None 21:01 27 24 16 354 (N) 183 Clear None 22:01 27 24 19 9 (N) 179 Mstly Clr None 23:01 29 22 10 4 (N) 301 Mstly Clr None 00:01 29 21 12 9 (N) 567 mstly clr none 01:01 29 19 14 14 (NNE) 158 clear none 02:01 30 18 14 1 (N) 149 clear none 03:01 29 18 12 19 (NNE) 323 clear none 04:01 28 20 10 1 (N) 172 clear none 05:01 31 10 7 333 (NNW) 127 clear none 06:01 28 19 8 353 (N) 195 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
