Seeing was good during focus exposures at low airmass, but mediocre (~1.5 arcsec) at higher airmasses for both SPIcam and the echelle. A few elongated images, probably caused by windshake, were noticeable for the lens program. There was also one instance of slitviewer abuse which crashed the remote observers' Mac and froze up the MC for a few minutes. I waited until the image in progress read out safely before restarting the MC, and after that everything was normal. Echelle users are reminded that it is always advisable to stop a slitviewer autoexpose sequence before changing anything such as the subframe or the exposure time, then restart the sequence once the changes are all set. This precaution would help avoid some of the crashes we've been seeing lately. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Noel Camron Hastings All was running normally when I arrived and seemed to run well throughout the second half. No motor noise heard, no slit viewer crashes, and GRIM seemed to behave itself. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:06 SPIcam -25(429) 61 65 -5.6/-5.6 357 6 r' 1.13 19:20 Echelle 28(-493) -139 38 -5.8/-6.1 10 32 ND2 1.41 21:03 Echelle 113(-488) 110 75 -5.0/-5.9 34 23 Clear 1.09 00:15 Grim f/10 000(0388) 141 64 -5.4/-5.3 343 13 K 0.86" ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 24 10 12 347 (NNW) 196 mstly clr none 17:01 23 6 17 315 (NW) 69 ptly cldy none 18:01 22 5 12 312 (NW) 117 mstly clr none 19:01 22 3 10 11 (N) 60 mstly clr none 20:01 24 -1 17 22 (NNE) 88 clear none 21:01 23 -9 18 12 (NNE) 110 clear none 22:01 24 -8 7 27 (NNE) 65 clear none 23:01 24 -8 13 339 (NNW) 63 clear none 00:01 24 -8 20 323 (NW) 86 clear none 01:01 23 -8 8 329 (NNW) 93 clear none 02:01 23 -10 19 314 (NW) 77 clear none 03:01 23 -12 19 341 (NNW) 86 clear none 04:01 26 -25 23 304 (NW) 72 clear none 05:01 26 -26 20 288 (WNW) 27 clear none 06:01 26 -29 18 313 (NW) 19 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
