All worked normally thereafter except for the pointing correction program. It has been noticed by Russet and myself that it does not seem to create accurate calibration offsets at altitudes of 70 degrees or higher. Tonight it created a 57 arcsec offset in azimuth when the star (at altitude 70) was only off 10 arcsecs each in X and Y. (This occurred at 22:02 MDT) This needs to be looked into and remedied if we are to make local pointing corrections using the track/pterr program. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan Second half went very smoothly, with clear skies and good to moderate seeing. Pointing was slightly better than during first half, and tracking was excellent. --------------- OBSERVER COMMENTS ---------------- M.Strauss (PU01): After heavy clouds in the first hour or two of the night, the sky cleared dramatically, and the seeing was decent, enough so that we went after faint objects spectroscopically with success. No telescope problems to report. Another successful half-night. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:58 DIS Slit +090(1149) 130 69 12.0/13.1 267 14 -- 1.21" ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 59 44 18 246 (WSW) 540 cloudy none 17:01 56 45 15 224 (SW) 527 cloudy none 18:01 59 45 23 216 (SW) 505 cloudy none 19:01 56 42 25 247 (WSW) 400 cloudy none 20:01 56 38 17 268 (W) 405 cloudy none 21:01 55 36 19 267 (W) 457 ptly cldy none 22:01 53 35 15 266 (W) 506 clear none 23:01 52 34 15 272 (W) 518 clear none 00:01 52 34 14 280 (W) 554 clear none 01:01 51 34 14 286 (WNW) 598 clear none 02:01 50 34 15 292 (WNW) 638 clear none 03:01 49 34 8 275 (W) 636 clear none 04:01 49 35 14 308 (NW) 686 clear none 05:01 47 33 15 3 (N) 855 clear none 06:01 46 30 14 0 (N) 711 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
