The weather was clear and calm and seeing was good first half. Everything working well. Craig fixed the guider monitor problem from last night. Galileo did reboot spontaneously at 20:03 MDT, all came up again fine. I did notice that the focus jumped back and forth early on, could have been due to the telescope cooling. Second half started under clear skies and then sudden clouds appeared. We checked the wavelength centers of the medium res gratings and found that they were off by a few steps. When we tried to correct this an excessive amount of play was found in the stepper motor making impossible to get closer than 2 steps of center. As we made corrections the slop caused us to just correct back and forth. On a good note, the dis collimators appear to be very well focused still, in blue and red. --------------- OBSERVER'S COMMENTS ---------------- X.Fan(PU05): A very successful night; we got a lot of good data. R.Walterbos(NM06): Equipment worked fine, weather didn't. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:14 DIS Slit 100(1474) -013 69 17.6/20.4 232 08 none 1.49" 20:28 NA2 Gdr 2800(1475) -017 68 17.3/20.2 253 06 none 1.21" 21:40 DIS Slit -060(1302) 129 46 16.5/18.2 236 06 none 0.92" 21:45 NA2 Gdr 0143(1296) 130 46 16.5/18.2 223 08 none 1.13" 01:35 DIS Slit 050(1241) 056 69 16.0/16.3 324 03 none 0.83" ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 74 42 11 232 (SW) 352 clear none 17:01 71 40 14 234 (SW) 299 clear none 18:01 71 40 10 194 (SSW) 323 clear none 19:01 66 39 13 209 (SSW) 480 clear none 20:01 62 38 5 257 (WSW) 489 clear none 21:01 63 38 7 237 (WSW) 522 clear none 22:01 62 38 7 204 (SSW) 524 clear none 23:01 61 38 3 206 (SSW) 470 clear none 00:01 61 38 1 259 (W) 456 clear none 01:01 63 38 1 268 (W) 460 clear none 02:01 62 39 4 269 (W) 392 cloudy none 03:01 60 33 1 352 (N) 253 mstly cldy none 04:01 61 36 1 93 (E) 304 cloudy none 05:01 62 39 5 208 (SSW) 427 cloudy none 06:01 62 39 2 247 (WSW) 426 ptly cldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
