I am not sure where it is coming from. The afternoon started out with rain and hail. Performed telescope checkout and waited for clouds to clear. GFP team worked on calibrations until we were able to open at 21:23 MDT. The skies remained cloudy, but safe and useable. There was a minor software bug that delayed us for a few minutes, but was resolved quickly. Great seeing followed. To save time and allow for more observations, we left the GFP mounted and used the switch time to observe. The GFP team is showing up at 08:30 MDT to remove the instrument and pack up, so it will be clean by 9-10am. After I switched to the Echelle I noticed a pointing error of about 5 arcsecs. New tertiary error observed, problem report submitted. It did not affect operations, we enjoyed good seeing and smooth sailing. The last program continued taking cals into the AM. --------------- Observer Comments ---------------- B.Woodgate(UW11): In general the instrument and the telescope ran well, much better than our previous run in Feb/March. The weather was better than usual, with some clear skies and poor to moderate seeing (1 - 2 arcsec), and some light cloud with excellent seeing (0.7 - 0.9 arcsec). Scientifically we had some success, detecting more extended structure on either side of the bipolar jet associated with the protoplanetary disk and young Ae star HD 163296, and obtaining velocity information on HH 32. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:04 GFP 150(1514) 178 68 14.5/15.5 178 10 6700A 0.72" 22:06 NA2 Gdr -1000(1513) 179 69 12.4/15.4 174 10 none 0.91" 23:05 GFP 100(1429) 216 65 14.0/14.5 180 09 6700A 0.76" 23:08 NA2 Gdr 0119(????) 216 65 14.0/14.5 175 11 none 0.77" 01:24 EchGdr 089(0282) 354 67 13.5/13.7 180 11 none 1.16" ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 63 45 1 190 (S) 740 cloudy hail 17:01 61 48 0 210 (SSW) 628 cloudy rain 18:01 61 45 0 216 (SW) 504 cloudy none 19:01 61 41 6 177 (S) 536 cloudy none 20:01 59 41 11 160 (SSE) 492 cloudy none 21:01 58 42 11 175 (S) 561 cloudy none 22:01 57 42 10 175 (S) 570 ptly cldy none 23:01 57 43 8 173 (S) 748 ptly cldy none 00:01 57 43 12 174 (S) 710 ptly cldy none 01:01 58 43 10 179 (S) 729 ptly cldy none 02:01 57 43 11 177 (S) 753 ptly cldy none 03:01 56 43 12 153 (SSE) 885 mstly clr none 04:01 56 44 10 180 (S) 831 mstly clr none 05:01 54 44 6 164 (SSE) 929 mstly clr none 06:01 53 44 1 139 (SE) 1100 ptly cldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
