The new pneumatic system was installed for eyelid and tertiary control. There are minor changes to the operation of eyelids now which will be solidified in the next couple of days. We started the evening with work on the Fast Guider. We were waiting for the seeing to improve before we started on collimation items. We started on M1 collimation at 23:30 MDT. We zeroed out the mirror tilts for M2 and then hand adjusted M3. We were surprised to find that the collimation was still very good at 60 degrees after the tip/tilt values had been zeroed. Since the collimation appeared good we could forego the pointing model. We instead tried to focus on the image motion at high altitudes. Upon closer scrutiny, we noticed that the mirror appears to move off the T load cell at high altitude. There is definitely a lot of movement of the primary at high altitudes in the transverse direction, but not enough to affect collimation seriously to the eye. The Shack-Hartmann measurements became useless about the same time we started these measurements due to the seeing jumping to 3-4 arcsecs! I waited around after this to see if the seeing would improve enough for another altitude sweep. The seeing did not improve much. Jeff Morgan and I worked on doing throughput measurements with the NA2 guider and made a rough comparison with data from 3 years ago. We found enough of a change in flux that we will reduce this data carefully so that we can give a firm estimate of accurate throughput loss. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:30 FG Cam 1100(????) -62 38 13.7/14.4 113 19 none ?.??" 23:05 SH Cam -025(1686) -86 62 13.7/14.6 114 16 none ?.??" 03:30 NA2 gdr -4800(1320) 088 54 12.6/12.8 084 10 R 1.96" ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 67 30 10 107 (ESE) 1085 photometric none 17:01 67 31 9 73 (ENE) 940 photometric none 18:01 66 31 15 75 (ENE) 833 photometric none 19:01 64 32 12 111 (ESE) 777 photometric none 20:01 61 32 12 86 (E) 799 photometric none 21:01 60 35 14 103 (ESE) 966 photometric none 22:01 58 36 20 113 (ESE) 963 photometric none 23:01 57 40 13 110 (ESE) 1062 photometric none 00:01 55 44 17 110 (ESE) 1164 photometric none 01:01 55 45 11 88 (E) 1179 photometric none 02:01 57 38 14 110 (ESE) 1214 photometric none 03:01 57 35 12 82 (E) 1079 photometric none 04:01 55 44 11 85 (E) 1142 photometric none 05:01 54 45 11 78 (ENE) 1202 photometric none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
